# When contribution and an author name are disputed

This article considers a student or researcher who notices a discrepancy in a contribution statement or byline. A fictional case separates contribution, responsibility for text, funding and data-use permission. Recognition does not authorise control over the whole project, and rank does not establish everyone's work in advance.

It may help a research-group participant before manuscript submission, during authorship discussion or when considering further material use.

- Which work and version does the dispute concern?
- How does a role description differ from authorship and name order?
- What does a person understand and endorse by signing?
- Why is data access not permission to remove or disclose it?
- How do an enquiry, corrected version and published correction differ?

No dataset's rights or actual dispute is adjudicated. Applicable journal, institutional, national and contractual conditions matter. Safe enquiry, recognised authorship, a place and continued funding are not guaranteed.
