# When someone else’s account is already circulating

This article examines a message already affecting relationships, work or access. It distinguishes an inaccurate fact, an assessment and a disclosure, then considers the recipient of a correction and the consequences of further transmission. Accuracy and responsibility remain relevant to your own response.

It may help someone whose story is being retold, or a supporter who wants to help without taking over their voice.

- Do you know the original message or a retelling?
- How do event, cause and assessment differ?
- Who needs information for a particular decision?
- Can one fact be corrected without publishing an entire biography?
- Why are sending, agreement and restored access different outcomes?

There is no promise of stopping every rumour or universal legal procedure. A serious threat raises a separate protection question.
