If a frightening event is followed by startling, tears, irritability, or an unfamiliar absence of feeling, understanding the response can be difficult. This article separates observation from a rushed explanation or moral judgement. It does not ask you to diagnose yourself or reconstruct what happened in detail. Begin with one episode, or choose a section about the body, talking with someone close, or seeking assessment. Continuing danger requires actual protection rather than proof that you can feel calm. Optional observation can stop if it makes things harder. A conversation about help can begin with today's difficulty and what it interferes with; a correct account of the whole history is unnecessary.
