When the wartime past cannot change, an ordinary next day may seem forbidden. Here a present need can be considered separately from the impossible task of restoring everything. No meaning, growth, forgiveness or proof of recovery is required. Loss and harm caused raise different questions; help for distress resolves neither automatically. Begin with one part: housing, memory, relationships, a limited promise or suitable contact. A new action declares no past repaired, and sleep and food need not be earned through suffering. Reading can stop. Small actual care retains value even while a larger answer about continuing life has not appeared.
