# When memory matters but a public role is not chosen

A museum or memorial invitation does not automatically explain a personal interview's terms. Attending, listening, speaking, recording and entering an exhibition are different roles. Supporting memory grants neither unlimited access to a biography nor automatic permission for every future use.

The full article distinguishes understood consent, publication stage and actual change options. Before recording, before opening and after copies circulate have different conditions. Professional oral-history norms are not every country's law; requested withdrawal is not reported as completed removal. Complete control over each copy is not promised.

Private memory can remain serious. Declining publicity neither requires forgetting nor prohibits others from giving their own accounts. A personal voice does not verify every fact or represent everyone harmed. Participation requires no forgiveness, reconciliation, correct tears or relief for a successful ending. Visits are not prescribed home endurance tests through graphic detail.

Substantial everyday difficulties may warrant suitable help before ready testimony. Immediate danger, serious deterioration or inability to maintain safety requires appropriate available local urgent help. Finishing an interview, exhibition or proof of proper grief need not precede attention to current need.
