## Question and action

How can a frightened adult respond to possible teenage substance use while preserving actual protection, rules, and access to help? Distinguish present danger from non-urgent conversation first. Possible harmful exposure/poisoning needs immediate local medical help without waiting for symptoms, testing, or confession. Violence needs a safe protective route, not compulsory reconciliation. Children do not coordinate everything for adults.

A short pause is appropriate only outside immediate danger, with actual safe care and a concrete return. Name a fact, allow correction, and hear the need rather than interrogate. A safe ride is not a punishment trap; discuss rules afterwards. A few clear revisable rules differ from covert control. Consequences do not treat addiction: food, housing, necessary care, prescribed medicine, and emergency contact are not withheld. A test is no home diagnosis; medical purpose, trained interpretation, explanation, consent, and local conditions require competent clarification.

## Resources and limits

Check a real service, age eligibility, language, cost, waiting, data, and deterioration arrangements. Referral, booking, and received help differ. Parents can seek their own support and arrange actual care for other children, without making the teenager an emotional regulator or monitor. Medicine is not stopped as punishment; prescribed use differs from nonmedical use. No worldwide consent age, absolute secrecy, guaranteed outcome, or home treatment protocol is offered.
