# The first “I'll do it”: child participation and adult limits

UW:GROW-023:en · r01 · local GEO; original hash bound in QA/DELIVERY. Server acceptance NOT_RUN.

For parents and adult carers aged18+. I–II distinguish an own part, ability, desire, and understanding; III actual and false choice; IV–V limits, feelings, and actions; VI help from takeover; VII rules and adult responsibility; VIII mixed outcomes without a required happy ending.

Practice: select one safe “myself”, separating the wanted part, available means, and actual limit. Offer only permissible answers, helping a part without removing later participation. With few resources, an honest limit and one reduced barrier may suffice; speech can replace diaries and extra training. Stop burdensome writing.

No age, ability, diagnosis, or obedience guarantee is prescribed. Urgent protection does not wait for discussion; risk is no lesson. Do not hit back; physical techniques are not supplied. A dangerous adult is no child's relationship-repair assignment: safe adult contact and suitable support are needed, with local emergency assistance for imminent danger. Other children are no rescuers or family inspectors.
