# Clear limits without humiliation or threats for a preschooler

## Audience and question

Parents, early years educators and other caring adults alongside children roughly three to six: how can a particular rule be maintained without threatening love, essential care or humiliation? Age guides the examples rather than assessing an individual child.

## Main distinctions

A limit restricts a particular action; a threat can put the relationship and safety at stake. A measure's connection to an action does not by itself make it proportionate. Ability, available means and willingness differ. A choice exists only where offered answers are genuinely acceptable. Clear instructions do not justify an inappropriate aim: a compulsory kiss does not become a useful educational task.

## Available next step

Choose one rule, identify its actual purpose and check whether it can be carried out. In the marker scene, stop marking the table and provide accessible paper or honestly state a pause. Do not withdraw food, care or family belonging. An adult who threatened to discard every drawing can withdraw the threat and retain the limit. The child need not first forgive or become happy. With few resources, make a small adjustment: paper nearby, one clear deadline or removal of a false choice.

## Limits of this help

The article does not validate a set of sanctions or diagnose behaviour. Serious injury or urgent danger calls for local emergency assistance; continuing abuse calls for safety and relevant protection. An ordinary discussion of a rule does not require the child to confront a dangerous adult. Local laws and services were not verified; language does not establish jurisdiction.

## Basis

Fisher's historical distinction, AAP guidance and Convention articles 5, 12 and 19 serve different roles. Exact links, reading scope and the date of the AAP revision remain in the [original](ARTICLE_EN.md) and SOURCES.json. The fully read UW:R-12-N01:ru revision 1 supplies a conceptual basis; this age-specific master does not replace it. GEO adds no new facts or promises.
