## Reader and question

Parents and other caring adults alongside children roughly three to six: how to prepare for a younger child's arrival and preserve the older child's place without compulsory immediate joy, love or assistance. The article cannot replace specific preparation for adoption or another complex transition.

## Main answer

“Older” creates no new abilities overnight. A feeling, an unpleasant sentence and a dangerous action need different responses. An infant needs actual care while an older child needs available help, their own play and adult connection. Fairness does not require identical actions every minute. An offered contribution transfers no infant-safety responsibility to a preschooler and is no condition for receiving care.

## An available action

Explain the actual nearest change and who cares for the older child during a parent's absence. Describe a newborn who cannot immediately be a playmate; invent no unknown return date. When hands are occupied, offer an available connection or a realistic next moment and return to promises. Keep a small ordinary activity without requiring good behaviour as payment. Permit refusal of a proposed task or displayed affection, and ask visitors to avoid comparison. No special purchase or separate room is required.

## Limits of this help

First stop danger and provide safe care for both children; discussion of feelings replaces no protection. The article teaches no physical restraint. Repeated risk, substantial continuing difficulty, concerning changes or an adult unable to manage safely warrant appropriate assistance. Injury or urgent danger calls for relevant local help. New illness or loss of skills is not diagnosed as attention seeking. There is no universal adjustment deadline, dose of individual minutes or guaranteed friendship. Language determines no jurisdiction.

## Grounds and boundaries

Aristotle helps distinguish a wish for friendship from lived acquaintance; his ancient household hierarchy is not adopted. The Dhammapada questions adults' responses to hostility without obliging a child to love, forgive or endure harm. AAP, HSE and UNICEF supply professional guidance with stated age and territorial limits, without individual diagnosis or guaranteed results. Exact reading appears in the [master](ARTICLE_EN.md), SOURCES.json and RESEARCH_NOTES.json. This GEO adds no new facts or promises.
