# Shared Plans When Your Lives Move at Different Speeds — GEO

Audience: adults aged 18 and over discussing education, work, relocation, a shared household or parenthood; supportive adults do not acquire authority to decide for the couple.

The article distinguishes a shortage of resources, uncertainty about desire and the absence of a shared intention. “Not now” does not promise “later.” Love, agreement to an action, an earlier promise and present ability require separate consideration (II–IV).

Waiting costs each person money, time, opportunities or other people's help. Third-party work cannot be counted as already available. A low-resource next step is naming one real limit, such as one affordable journey a month (III).

A pause needs a defined subject, continuing conditions and an event justifying another conversation. A discussion date is not a deadline to feel ready. A small trial yields limited information; calling it a trial does not make the loss of housing or work reversible (IV–V).

The practice selects one task and separates “want / can / promised / don't know.” Writing is optional. Payment, separate housing and complete agreement are not prerequisites. Recognizing incompatibility or not promising yet are possible outcomes. The exercise has not been shown effective.

Threats or control of communication or necessities mean a joint test is not the first recommended step. Accessible, safe local support is needed without provoking a threat or revealing an exit plan. Language does not establish jurisdiction. Existing care of a child and accepted contractual responsibilities require their own factual inquiry; reconsidering a relationship does not erase them (VI–VII).

Philosophical sources are Aristotle III.3 and Seneca IV.38–39; the religious source is Ecclesiastes 3:1–13. Their differences remain explicit. They do not empirically validate a relationship exercise. NHS guidance supports only the safety boundary. Exact source details appear in the article and SOURCES.json.
