## Short answer

A request can name an action, timing, relevant conditions and a desired way of participating without proving total helplessness or former independence. Help understanding or expressing the question can itself be requested. The needed scope should not be artificially reduced to gain agreement; uncertainty is identified separately. Clear wording cannot guarantee an available helper, money or a met need.

## Main distinctions

I–II: previous independence can remain real without being a condition for asking. The scale of an action differs from judging the whole person. III–IV: relevant working conditions matter without requiring an entire biography; an actual possibility of refusal depends on the conversation’s arrangement rather than politeness alone. The Flynn/Lake abstract neither predicts an individual answer nor justifies pressure. V–VI: assistance does not transfer every decision; refusal does not remove need or define every relationship. VII–VIII: gratitude, an active promise and a new request differ; an unfinished task is not declared resolved. IX: an adult supported since childhood and communicating without speech remains a participant; a pause is not agreement. Necessary specialised support for understanding/expression cannot be replaced by a household test.

## Questions

**Must a complete plan exist first?** No. Clarifying the task together can itself be requested (II, IX, practice).

**Does accepting assistance authorise the helper to choose everything?** No. Action and authority are discussed separately, including desired help with the decision itself (V, IX).

**What if nobody can help?** The resource gap remains real. An unmet action and appropriate enquiry can be named; a contact is not assistance actually begun (VI, IX).

## Practice and limits

One task, relevant conditions, an actual addressee and their real answer. No compulsory application, written dossier, former merits or equal repayment. A new voluntary service differs from already necessary continuing assistance; the article does not authorise abrupt care withdrawal or appoint a child as reserve organiser. Individual law and clinical capacity are not determined. In danger, a household exercise does not replace appropriate assistance.
