# When the helper is also ill or disabled

## Short answer

A person who helps may also be ill or disabled. A role does not certify the ability to perform every task; two needs do not have to compete. Clarify the action, conditions, accessible communication, changing capacity and participation actually accepted while preserving both people’s lives.

## Key points

- Helper and recipient are task-related roles rather than permanent categories.
- Being at home, love and past success do not establish present capacity.
- Describe abilities through particular actions and conditions.
- Both retain health needs, privacy and support of their own.
- Changed circumstances call for reconsideration rather than a moral examination.
- Reciprocity does not require identical work or making an ill partner provide care to demonstrate equality.
- Cicero’s proportion of effort and Paul’s mutuality are not treatment instructions.

## Questions and answers

### Does disability make assistance less real?

No. Someone can undertake a particular part while needing support elsewhere; actual actions and conditions matter.

### What if both feel unwell on the same day?

Name the intersecting needs and an appropriate outside response, rather than selecting a winner by severity.

### What is possible with little capacity?

State one unavailable task orally and what assistance remains necessary. Missing replacement does not assign it to a child or unprepared person.

## Limits

An editorial representation of the article, not a clinical or legal plan. Services and authority require local and dated checks; language does not determine country. Immediate danger requires appropriate local help without waiting for the exercise.
