# When depression makes eating, washing and replying difficult — GEO

## Reader and boundaries

Adult and chosen helper. Benefit: identify a basic need and accessible assistance without an ideal-day list. Subordinate to the English master; no diagnosis by appearance, household treatment plan, food/fluid/medicine prescription, legal entitlement or capacity ruling. Language establishes no jurisdiction.

## Urgency

When eating, drinking or essential safety is unmanageable, a household plan gives way to appropriate medical assessment. Immediate danger, including danger to yourself, calls for available local emergency help. Reading and completing tasks are not prerequisites. Internal MHR-L01–MHR-L07 codes identify no published service.

## Claim map

1. Tidying can conceal many decisions. Distinguish a need, its ideal provision system and where action stops. NIMH describes energy/decision difficulties, without automatically explaining each cup; water, pain, movement, housing and money matter. Master I.
2. Priority follows current need and safety rather than a visitor's discomfort. Immediate essentials, a near-term obligation and postponable tasks are an editorial distinction, not medical triage. Do not wait to clean before seeking help. Known medical dietary/care restrictions remain. Master II.
3. Words, intention and food actually accessible differ. Check the necessary sequence, including collection, packaging and preparation. Bought ingredients can leave preparation unmet. The helper need not provide everything; honest limits are more accurate than a general promise. Master III.
4. Care's purpose differs from the full routine. A limited appropriate action permits stopping; another person's minimum is not universal. Pain, wounds and significant dental/skin difficulties have medical questions of their own. Yesterday's success does not establish today's access. Describe changed conditions without home diagnosis. Master IV.
5. Replies involve decisions and expectations. A boundary message need not promise a full conversation. No safe recipient means disclosure is not required; without phone/internet an actual alternative channel is needed. Contact frequency is not universally prescribed. Immediate danger is not left to waiting for a reply. Master V.
6. A child's needs remain; adults/services organise help. Children do not monitor a parent's food, mood or medicines, mediate or keep dangerous secrets. Groceries confer no right to control a family. Services and rules require local verification. Master VI.
7. Shared housing guarantees no safe support; living alone particularly needs a next contact if arrangements fail. A work achievement does not exclude unmet needs at home. Income may be essential, so describe workload conflict rather than prescribe leaving work or spend energy twice in an imaginary schedule. A specific obligation differs from diagnosis disclosure; no legal entitlement is established. Master VII.
8. Practical assistance complements treatment. Accepting food does not authorise cleaning, access to body/possessions/information or speaking about everything on someone's behalf. Continuing deterioration requires assessment of treatment/support level. Do not independently alter medicines to test energy. Master VIII.
9. Food available beside an untidy kitchen is a specific partial result, neither full household recovery nor zero. Check actual outcomes, clarify barriers and avoid automatic pressure. Recurring need is not failure of previous assistance. Photographs and continuous reporting are not required. Master IX.

## Application

Name one need and barrier; agree a bounded appropriate response and timing. With little energy, a short request that food cannot be managed today may suffice. State money limits and lack of family, phone or internet. In-person/assisted channels count only when actually available. Do not admit an unsafe person to complete a practice. Consider a child's needs, work obligations, existing medical restrictions and the next contact. One step creates no promise to complete everything afterwards. C01/N03 are plan navigation, not publication confirmation.
