## Entrance

An adult with restriction related to sensations, consequence fear or low interest gains descriptive language and an ARFID/alternative assessment question. Narrow preferences alone do not diagnose. Nutritional adequacy, health and participation matter. Hypothetical Nikita is not diagnosed. Shape/weight change is not ARFID's principal driver, but one sentence cannot classify; difficulties may coexist. Autism is not ARFID or vice versa.

Physical conditions, pain/swallowing, allergy, medicines and food access need separate consideration without home tests. Poverty is not pathologised. New physical difficulty cannot automatically be labelled fear to overcome. Unsafe eating/drinking needs medical discussion; continuing unconsciousness/sudden confusion/acute deterioration requires available immediate help. Examples are not exhaustive. Language determines no country/number.

## Action and conditions

Without acute illness, name one truthful difficulty and effect and request nutrition/physical assessment without a complete food list or test. Environmental adjustment, such as predictable food descriptions, can be agreed everyday support rather than treatment or proof of adequate nutrition. No menu, hidden ingredients, hunger coercion, allergy/swallowing testing or home exposure. Existing prescriptions/plans are not independently changed.

Cost, kitchen, transport, actual food and safe contact are planning conditions; referral is not implementation. ARFID care research is developing, without a universal adult course or promised outcome. Helpers have agreed roles; children do not monitor adults. Improvement concerns health and participation rather than obedience or a newly eaten food. Deterioration/new symptoms/unsuitable plans need discussion with the team.

## Traditions and sources

Legge XV.XXIII questions imposition through reciprocity, while one's tastes cannot explain another's sensations. Aristotle VIII.2–3 distinguishes a friend's good from one's own utility; support is no competition. Different ethical arguments, not diagnosis/therapy evidence. Key fragment VIII.2 “wish what is good for his sake” checked in the primary text.
