# Inpatient and crisis care: subordinate representation

## Purpose

MHR-082/r01 supports adults taking part in arranging psychiatric care. Danger to life, serious injury or inability to maintain safety requires appropriate local emergency help; sudden confusion needs immediate medical assistance. Packing and questions must not delay urgent contact. This article does not remotely determine the need for admission.

## Distinctions

Contact, assessment, a proposed setting and a decision are separate stages. Inpatient care, outpatient help, general hospital care and possible visiting services are not identical packages. Local availability, staffing and access must be established. Care outside hospital does not itself dismiss suffering.

The purpose of a stay relates clinical work to the person's life rather than family convenience alone. Ask what should become clearer or change and when to review the plan. Personal aims do not replace clinical assessment; no outcome is guaranteed in advance.

Voluntary contact, agreement to a particular intervention, a signature and the legal basis of a restriction differ. Status, grounds, review and rights assistance need competent local explanation. A general statement about leaving an ordinary hospital cannot be transferred to every psychiatric situation. No evasion of assessment or dangerous testing of restrictions is offered.

## Preparation and participation

Convey known information about current condition and actual prescriptions, marking gaps. Do not change treatment or guess a history. Describe language, communication and accessibility needs. Ask the institution about belongings and storage; a perfect folder is no prerequisite for urgent help.

A chosen supporter can write, recall a question or convey agreed words. They gain neither automatic decision authority nor access to every record. Discuss contact, the information concerned, privacy and confidentiality limits specifically. Do not promise absolute secrecy that obstructs assistance during danger.

Without money, housing, family or communication, identify the actual barrier and ask for help arranging what is available. A request, acceptance of a task and completion are distinct. The patient need not coordinate everything; a supporter's limits should also be stated honestly.

Before leaving, establish the next recipient, actual contact, understandable instructions, access to prescribed care and action if arrangements fail. A referral is not accepted care; a number is not a usable channel. Changing needs require a way to review arrangements.

## Grounds and limits

Kant, second section, Abbott: a person cannot be exhausted by a convenient function. The fragment never as means only is explicitly shortened; it neither chooses treatment nor becomes a rationality test. Analects XV.40–41, Legge, concerns concrete access to an encounter; blindness is not equated with crisis. The doctrines remain distinct. CRPD12/14/21/22 supplies a normative framework, not domestic procedures.

Read NHS assessment, urgent-help, sudden-confusion and general discharge pages supply clinical or organizational information. LSCFT is a bounded English example. SOURCES.json records scopes and dates; inaccessible guidance is not treated as read. This is a local author version.
