## Reader and purpose

For an adult who feels worse after a psychiatric treatment change. Helps communicate the sequence and current difficulty to a medical professional. Does not determine withdrawal, recurrence, or a new illness through an article.

## Distinctions

Temporal succession does not establish cause. Withdrawal, recurrence, an adverse effect, and another cause may produce similar complaints. Delayed onset does not exclude antidepressant withdrawal; a new feeling does not prove a new illness, nor a familiar one recurrence. Timing, symptom quality, actual use, and other circumstances need joint assessment. Risks differ between products: the FDA benzodiazepine warning about dependence with prescribed use and dangerous abrupt withdrawal is not a prediction for every medicine.

## Application

Report the known change, what followed, and its present impact on life. Mark approximate timing; distinguish memory, documentation, and hypothesis, and the agreed plan from actual use. Incomplete history does not prevent seeking help. Do not create missed doses, stopping, restarting, or substitutions to obtain proof. Spoken information can begin the conversation; a full diary, device, records, and family are not assumed. During transfer between services, clarify who requests missing information and who assesses the present condition. Sharing, language, cost, and access arrangements require local clarification.

## Boundaries

Immediate threat to life or self-harm risk requires urgent local help without waiting for a diagnosis. New suicidal thoughts need immediate professional contact; danger or inability to stay safe needs an emergency route. Seizures or another life-threatening condition should not wait for a routine appointment. No doses, reduction schedules, or compensating substances are provided. This does not require enduring a dangerous reaction: timely medical assessment is needed.

Relatives help with agreement, without confiscating treatment or substituting their causal theory for the person's voice. A child is not responsible for treating or monitoring an adult. Threats require independent attention to the safety of the harmed person and children. A supportive conversation, appointment booking, actual assessment, and understandable further contact are different outcomes.

## Bases and meaning

Medical bases are [NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/antidepressants/), [RCPsych](https://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/mental-health/treatments-and-wellbeing/stopping-antidepressants), [FDA benzodiazepine information](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/fda-requiring-boxed-warning-updated-improve-safe-use-benzodiazepine-drug-class), and [NIMH Depression](https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/depression), within explicit scopes. They are not clinical evidence, blame for illness, or instructions to wait instead of seeking help. An unknown cause is compatible with a useful next step.
