Inner voices: a dialogue with yourself to see different positions

Voluntary inner dialogue can present different reasons within one task. Facts, wishes, assessments, predictions, and conditions can be distinguished, missing information checked externally, and authorship of the decision kept with the person.

Questions explored

Must inner roles be invented?

No. Ordinary sentences, a list, or another appropriate form may be enough.

Does inner dialogue guarantee a correct decision?

No. Research on the suggested writing's effect is not presented here.

Can an imagined reply count as a relative's consent?

No. Changing a real agreement needs the participants' real answer.

Must the conversation end unanimously?

No. A decision can include a stated cost, or a missing question can be established.

Key distinctions

Socrates's selected statement presents thought through question, answer, and opinion. (Plato, Theaetetus, Jowett)

The selected Mill passage proposes considering persuasive opposing positions and their defenders. (Mill, On Liberty II)

The abstract describes comparing elicited dialogic/monologic scenarios and activations. (Alderson-Day et al., PMID26197805, abstract)

Experiences of audible voices are considered separately through seeking urgent medical advice. (NHS, clinical guidance)

Fact, assessment, wish, and prediction within one reason can have different grounds. (United Wisdom editorial reasoning)

An imagined reply does not establish a real person's agreement. (United Wisdom editorial reasoning)

A conversation can end with a clear step or question for a source while disagreement remains. (United Wisdom editorial reasoning)

Limits of interpretation

  • Plato: selected statement/context, not the whole dialogue; a character is not universal psychology.
  • Mill: selected Chapter II passage, philosophical reasoning, not a writing experiment.
  • Alderson-Day et al.: complete abstract, not full methods/sample/text; everyday decision quality not tested.
  • NHS: clinical public guidance for a scope boundary; no diagnosis/treatment from one word, UK numbers not generalized.
  • Contemporary practice editorial and voluntary; a role is no independent personality, imaginary consent no agreement.
  • Particular copies UNKNOWN for international rights; clinical, independent and human acceptance not claimed here.
  • NHS urgent medical advice for hallucination experience retained; emergency danger handled separately, UK numbers not transferred; no selfdiagnosis.
