Entropy requires a specified system, states and conditions. Visual disorder alone establishes neither a physical quantity nor a moral conclusion.
Questions explored
Does desk tidiness determine its entropy?
The UW example establishes no such result: observed convenience differs from a physical definition and calculation.
Does the second law make repairing a mistake pointless?
No such moral conclusion is drawn; available repairs need their own practical and ethical grounds.
What does UW practice check?
The proposal clarifies an observation and convenience criterion while retaining unknowns; effectiveness is unstudied.
Key distinctions
Lebowitz relates a macrostate to a region of compatible microstates, retaining typicality and preparation conditions. (Lebowitz, 1993, pp. 34–35)
Lieb and Yngvason’s entropy principle concerns equilibrium states and specified accessibility assumptions. (Lieb and Yngvason, 1998, printed pp. 3–8)
Simon distinguishes an entropy characteristic from the rate of forming stable intermediate structures. (Simon, 1962, pp. 470–472)
In the original card example, twenty-four permutations form six colour classes of four each. (Original example II; separate applications VII–VIII and practice)
Limits of interpretation
- Specified physical models, states and boundaries. Boltzmann entropy, ensemble Gibbs entropy and equilibrium thermodynamic entropy cannot be interchanged without grounds. No claim about increase in every open part at every instant, or scale of spirituality and morality. Cards, desk and practice are original UW examples without physical entropy calculation or psychological measurement; consent and constraints remain.
