Support that makes autonomy possible
Clarify the purpose, obstacle and subject of help: obtaining a result, understanding an arrangement or trying your part. Autonomy can involve participating in a decision with continuing support. Changes are agreed without hidden tests; the practice does not guarantee an outcome or prescribe withdrawing necessary help.
Questions explored
Must help be removed after success?
Not automatically. Needed support can remain while a particular part’s change is separately agreed. Necessary conditions do not become a hidden test.
Must all help teach?
No. The recipient can choose a finished result. Purpose and proposed scope are clarified without an obligatory development programme.
How can change be noticed?
Through the particular purpose: an option became accessible, a condition clearer, an obstacle remained or cost changed. One episode proves no lasting skill.
Key distinctions
Access to information and means can expand participation without judging personality from one uncompleted action. (Authorial distinction)
Keller describes a new understanding of a word through an accessible well-house action in her retrospective autobiography. (Keller I.IV)
Analects VII.8 expects further thought from the pupil; a historical educational demand does not establish contemporary rules for access to necessary help. (Analects VII.8)
Aristotle retains friends in the self-sufficient person’s good life within normative philosophy. (Aristotle IX.9)
