When learning is hard: conditions, skills and reasons to seek assessment
material_id: UW:GROW-041:en
Audience: parents, other caring adults and learners aged 18+. Question: what obstructs a particular learning action, and what help can be requested?
The article distinguishes conditions, skill acquisition and reasons for assessment. Providing access does not establish acquisition of a skill. One success does not rule out a specific difficulty, and one sign does not diagnose it. A child's account matters without transferring adult responsibility.
Feasible action: describe one episode without a personal label, agree safe assistance, retain two examples and ask an educational or specialist service a concrete question. Purchasing a programme is not a prerequisite. Substantial continuing difficulty warrants assessment; sudden deterioration requires medical discussion.
This is no diagnostic test, individual prescription or guarantee of service access. Procedures vary by location.
