Strong abilities and uneven development: support without expecting adulthood in every area
material_id: UW:GROW-046:en
For caring adults and young adults aged 18+. A demonstrated ability in one area establishes no adulthood across all activities. Unevenness establishes no diagnosis, and a strong result excludes no need for assistance.
Separate suitable conceptual challenge from accessible teaching or conditions for a difficult component. Assessment should serve a defined purpose. Ordinary work samples and descriptions of support inform a clearer question than a label without action. Formal service conditions require local clarification.
Possible step: discuss one interest, one difficult component and a feasible school option with the child; name an adult responsible and a review. With limited resources, begin with a conversation rather than compulsory purchases. Children become neither family consultants nor debtors promising exceptional futures.
Persistent substantial difficulty or pronounced distress calls for appropriate educational/medical support; immediate danger requires local urgent protection.
