Why Should I Believe You? Questions, Information and Trust in Adults

Short answer / Краткий ответ
Trust in adults permits questions about the grounds of a particular claim. Name the claim, an accessible check, the remaining unknown and the person responsible for the next step. Children need not investigate every adult matter or independently prove danger before receiving protective attention.
Claims / Утверждения
C01 — EDITORIAL_APPLICATION
Clarifying the subject separates a message source, a decision reason and the next plan; understanding need not produce immediate agreement.
master_section: I. A question can have several different subjects source_ids: S1
Editorial application to an invented family scene; no outcome study.
C02 — BOUNDED_PHILOSOPHICAL_APPLICATION
A record and an explanation of its meaning differ; an undated retelling may remain unconfirmed.
master_section: II. What we observe differs from what we infer source_ids: S1
Dewey Chapter I on perception and inference; the announcement is our example.
C03 — ETHICAL_EDITORIAL_APPLICATION
Competence has a scope, and acknowledging an unknown answer can coexist with adult care and responsibility for an accessible next step.
master_section: III. Adults can know more without knowing everything source_ids: S4, S5
Analects II.XVII offers an ethical reference; expertise is not erased and no local legal procedure is established.
C04 — PRACTICAL_EDITORIAL_GUIDANCE
One message permits a manageable date and provenance check; repetitions may share one source, and children need not investigate every adult claim.
master_section: IV. Check how the source connects to the question source_ids: S3
Official guidance supports discussing provenance; the particular example and proportional limit are editorial.
C05 — GUIDANCE_WITH_EDITORIAL_APPLICATION
Honest uncertainty permits finding out later; a correction can address the specific message and its consequences while adults retain responsibility.
master_section: V. Saying “I don't know” leaves responsibility intact source_ids: S2
NSPCC on honesty, age, unknown answers and returning; no guaranteed restoration of trust.
C06 — PROTECTION_BOUNDARY
A child reporting harm needs listening and protective attention, without being sent to obtain dangerous proof; absolute secrecy should not be promised.
master_section: VI. Asking requires conditions in which a question can be heard source_ids: S2, S5
Normative and practical frame; duties depend on role and location; nobody’s guilt is determined.
C07 — EDITORIAL_DISTINCTION
A statement about time, a value and a personal symbol have different grounds; uncertainty does not make all accounts equally supported.
master_section: VII. Different kinds of statement have different grounds source_ids: S1
Philosophical distinction with editorial examples, without settling religious arguments.
C08 — EDITORIAL_PRACTICE
Curiosity, play and limited checking can coexist; inquiry can stop at an adequate answer without making constant scrutiny a child’s responsibility.
master_section: VIII. Curiosity can be a pleasure shared source_ids: S1, S5
Editorial application preserving participation and adult responsibilities, without promising relationship outcomes.
Questions / Вопросы
Q01 — How can a child ask why an adult is sure?
Name one claim and clarify whether the question concerns its source, reason or plan. Adults help make it understandable; perfect phrasing is unnecessary.
master_sections: I. A question can have several different subjects; VI. Asking requires conditions in which a question can be heard; What this means in practice claim_ids: C01, C06
Q02 — Does a widely forwarded message count as confirmed?
Repetitions may share one old record. Check accessible dates, content and the source’s relation to the question; state when access is unavailable.
master_sections: II. What we observe differs from what we infer; IV. Check how the source connects to the question claim_ids: C02, C04
Q03 — What if an adult does not know the answer?
Identify knowns, unknowns, a manageable next step and who will report back. Uncertainty does not transfer adult responsibilities to children.
master_sections: III. Adults can know more without knowing everything; V. Saying “I don't know” leaves responsibility intact claim_ids: C03, C05
Q04 — Must children independently prove that they have been harmed?
No. Checking an announcement must not become a condition of protection. Listening and suitable responsible action are needed in available local circumstances; stop the exercise where questions bring threats.
master_sections: VI. Asking requires conditions in which a question can be heard; What this means in practice claim_ids: C06
Q05 — Must the entire correspondence or every adult secret be disclosed?
No. One example can be discussed; adults can explain the part affecting the child while respecting private information. Privacy must not demand silence about harm.
master_sections: III. Adults can know more without knowing everything; IV. Check how the source connects to the question; VI. Asking requires conditions in which a question can be heard claim_ids: C03, C04, C06
Q06 — Can a decision be made with some unknowns?
A manageable reversible step may be possible with the unknown and the responsible person named. Consequential decisions need relevant competence; accounts do not become equally supported.
master_sections: VII. Different kinds of statement have different grounds; What this means in practice claim_ids: C07
Q07 — Can questions also be playful and enjoyable?
Yes. Imagination and curiosity have room; an adequate answer can be a stopping point. A child’s contribution does not appoint them permanent adult fact checker.
master_sections: VIII. Curiosity can be a pleasure shared claim_ids: C08
