I agreed but did not understand: returning to the conversation

Questions & Answers

Based on LHD-021, r01, ARTICLE_EN.md.

Does a signature prove understanding?

It does not alone tell an observer what someone understood. Present uncertainty likewise establishes no legal invalidity of earlier consent. Assessment needs the document, circumstances and applicable local rules (I).

How can I reopen discussion?

Identify one gap: purpose, scope, significant option, uncertainty or next step. You might say: “I agreed, but this part remains unclear; please explain it accessibly.” A legal dispute is no prerequisite for asking (II–III).

How can understanding be checked?

Convey meaning accessibly and ask for correction of a mismatch. Repeating a term does not replace understanding. This is neither an examination nor a capacity assessment. Agree the method with the person, including substantial support needs (IV, VI).

What does a new explanation establish?

It is not itself renewed agreement, reversal of the past or a promise that every option is available. Clarify what is agreed now and what remains open. Professional recording responsibility does not pass to the patient (III, VII).

What about limited resources and urgency?

One spoken or otherwise accessible question can begin without family or a device. Tell the service about support needs. This article determines neither representation, form validity, withdrawal procedure, treatment nor a safe pause. Serious current danger requires appropriate urgent help (VI–VIII, practice).
