Sleep and long-term illness: what to discuss when rest is not refreshing
Time in bed does not prove restoration. Nighttime circumstances, the experience of sleep and daytime effects need distinguishing. Someone may know sleep is unrefreshing without reconstructing every awakening precisely. This is a report rather than self-diagnosis of insomnia or another disorder.
Sleep and long-term illness: what to discuss when rest is not refreshing offers one known nighttime fact or condition, one daytime difficulty and a question about assessment. A compulsory diary, device, family observer and private appointment are not assumed. If help is inaccessible, the barrier remains a separate need. A new problem must not automatically be assigned to an existing diagnosis.
NHLBI describes professional sleep and health history; NG206 considers individual rest and sleep in the specific ME/CFS context. VA/DoD2025 distinguishes professional CBT-I from sleep hygiene alone. None becomes a home sleep-restriction course, removal of necessary rest or medication regimen. Immediate danger requires urgent help before practice; changes may require reassessment.
Seneca56 and Mark2:23–28 retain their differences: inner steadiness and human need within a religious order do not form a clinical method. Poor sleep does not establish moral or spiritual failure. This companion to the English original adds no territorial rights or services; consultation, received care and improved sleep are different outcomes.
