Rehabilitation: whose goals are in the plan?

Short answer

Connect a rehabilitation goal with an everyday activity important to the person. A measure, a method and life's meaning differ. A wish does not guarantee clinical possibility; an unavailable service does not establish medical impossibility. Participation with assistance can also be a meaningful outcome.

Main distinctions

I–II: agreeing with a form does not establish shared understanding of an outcome; measured function and accessible activity are distinct. III: a wish, clinical possibility and organisational resources answer different questions. IV: a relative's goal and limit retain their own voice without replacing the person's preference. V: Aristotle's means-end question helps ask why a measure was chosen. VI: Laozi's space image illuminates conditions of use without prescribing non-intervention. VII: condition, method, resources and preference provide different review reasons, rather than character judgements. VIII: one spoken question is possible without a polished plan, phone or money; an outcome is not guaranteed. IX: independence is not the only worthy result; enjoyment and companionship have their own value.

Questions for discussion

How does this item connect with an activity important to me, and what cannot be concluded from it? Which parts concern clinical information, the method and available conditions? With whom and on what grounds is the goal reviewed? Support can preserve one's own participation when answering is difficult. A form's existence does not establish a suitable format.
