Central question
What does the technology actually do, and what deserves trust for a particular task? One screen may combine measurement, forwarding, notification and software interpretation. They require different grounds. A completion mark or confident account establishes neither an action's quality nor a clinical assessment.
Main distinctions
The FDA communication of 21 February 2024 distinguishes watches/rings claiming to measure glucose independently without piercing skin from display of data supplied by appropriate measuring equipment. It is a narrow US communication, not rejection of all wearables. Discuss medical-device suitability with the team rather than staging a risky personal test.
WHO's release on generative models identifies risks of false, inaccurate, biased and incomplete statements. The article uses that release, claiming neither full reading of its underlying guidance nor a known error rate for a particular current service. An AI-prepared question is not a medical conclusion.
A notification address does not create round-the-clock assistance. Clarify accepted roles, times, possible action and remaining limits. No alert is not automatic evidence of wellbeing. A new function, recipient or unavailable helper calls for a specific review.
Data and purpose
Agreement to report an event does not mean continuous visibility of a whole life. A helper's agreement differs from technical restrictions. Ending future access does not establish that previous copies disappeared. Diagnosis and kinship do not determine the chosen scope of support.
Hume distinguishes confidence and evidence; Aristotle distinguishes successful execution and a good purpose. Philosophy verifies neither equipment nor clinical authority. Technology can assist a particular task while leaving space for ordinary life.
Application and limits
Name one function, its data and recipients, the response arrangement and a consequential unknown. No purchase or activation is required. An oral question or chosen communication support can begin. Do not change treatment, thresholds or settings based on the article. Immediate danger requires appropriate urgent help without waiting for an app.
