Questions & Answers
Talking with an employer about the conditions you need
Direct answer
Begin with one work task, a barrier and a question about a change. Clarify who can decide, which information is needed, and how to tell whether the arrangement works. The language of this card does not identify a country or its employment law.
Distinctions that matter
A task and the way it arrives; a functional need and a complete medical history; a sympathetic listener and an authorised recipient; a proposal, decision and implementation. A document or message does not itself provide medical clearance.
Example
A fictional employee cannot read an image schedule using her software. She asks about an accessible format, simultaneous updates and the responsible sender. “Ask a colleague to read it” does not establish whether information arrives on time or can be consulted independently later.
A useful next question
“This task involves this barrier. Who can consider a change, and which information is needed for the decision?” It is acceptable not to know the solution. After an answer, clarify implementation, review, and any effects on hours or pay.
Limits
Local disclosure rules and documents need checking. The card makes no legal finding on refusal and promises no confidentiality, retained job or income. Do not test safety through a dangerous shift or change treatment independently. An urgent threat requires appropriate available local help without waiting for a staffing decision.
With limited resources
A letter, app, paid adviser and family helper cannot be assumed available. Ask about another communication channel where possible. An unfound recipient or absent assistance remains a gap; a child should not organise negotiations.
