Entrance
An adult with eating difficulties and a relative discuss agreed roles, shared meals, privacy, professional plans and physical condition. Hypothetical Svetlana/Andrey are not diagnosed. Observation/reported words differ from causal/health conclusions. EDs, ARFID, medical restrictions and access scarcity have no single family correction; poverty is not pathologised. Clinical and social tasks may coexist.
One manageable role—contact, booking, transport, presence—is separately agreed. Accompaniment permits no general disclosure/record access. For team-proposed eating involvement, clarify purpose/actions/contact/review without prohibiting all clinically agreed support or authorising independent surveillance. A plan includes the helper's actual capacity. Shared meals are no examination; a film illustrates company rather than proven treatment. No menu, concealed ingredients, allergy tests, hunger/shame coercion, home nutritional restoration or prescription changes.
Privacy and safety
Adults may seek private contact; local consent/confidentiality limits require clarification. Privacy is no universal secrecy for every danger; anxious disagreement is not an emergency or family authority to coerce. Independent contact matters in unsafe relationships. Psychological explanation replaces no physical assessment. Continuing unconsciousness, sudden confusion, abrupt deterioration/inability to maintain safety requires available immediate help. Examples are incomplete and exclude no other risk. Complete histories/household agreement must not delay assistance. Language determines no country/number.
Children do not count food, monitor adults or carry crisis responsibility. Helpers have limits and support needs. Missing money/housing/contact/safe family are planning facts rather than imagined availability. Declining one role proves no rejection of all care; waiting is not promised safe. Financial dependence authorises no independently assigned treatment, and every dangerous act need not be supported. Referral, booking, assessment received, daily improvement and completed care differ.
Practice and traditions
Without acute danger: one observation, a question about suitable help, one feasible agreed role with limits and a difficulty contact. No agreement is not reported as performed care. Aristotle VIII.2–3 distinguishes a friend's good from self-reassurance; Legge XV.XXIII does not authorise projecting tastes; Epictetus §1 limits power without excusing inaction in danger. Different ethical aims do not become family therapy.
