Returning to work or study after a mental health crisis

Answer
Wanting to return, task requirements, medical suitability, and agreed arrangements differ. A conversation can address workload, a phased approach, pay/student status, information, and review. Return does not establish that every symptom has disappeared; not returning does not determine dignity. There is no universal number of hours/weeks or rule always to disclose or conceal a diagnosis.
Argument
I–VI distinguish a whole working day from an operation, professional assessment from a schedule, the content of gradual return, travel/food/resources, agreed pay, and actual execution. Fewer hours do not guarantee former income; home working creates no absent equipment. One successful day does not prescribe an increase. VII–VIII limit cultural comparisons: Ecclesiastes sets no date, Seneca removes no need for help, and Confucius demands no flawless speech. An international norm does not establish a ready local workplace.
IX–XII add the mental health and study context. Fear of stigma is not solved by guaranteed understanding. Ask what information an authorized recipient needs and who sees it. This does not authorize hiding substantial danger or bypassing required documents. Disclosure cannot be undone by telling someone not to worry; a particular incident needs the appropriate local inquiry.
A work plan needs to recognize continuing care; discharge/referral does not mean support has been delivered. WHO provides an organizational distinction, not a measured effect or statistic. In education, materials, learning, an accepted assignment, deadlines, practical requirements, and status differ. The Open University is one institution's example, not a global service. Fewer modules or a break can affect money, housing, status, and other conditions needing separate answers. Assistance does not mean submitting another person's work; a child must not organize an adult's return.
Manageable application
One question can suffice: who can explain the requirements for returning and how arrangements can be reviewed? Start through accessible speech or chosen assistance. Clarify the task, authority, necessary information, actual day, pay/status, and what remains unagreed. Request, decision, and execution differ. No app, paid adviser, or family is assumed; absent resources remain limits. Preparation can end with an open question without a promised date.
A counterexample matters: income is needed but the former shift remains unassessed; financial necessity is not clearance. A link has arrived but the file cannot be opened; usable access is not yet provided. Immediate danger and serious deterioration do not await staffing or academic replies. Safety must not be tested through hazardous exertion, sleep loss, or independent treatment changes for a timetable.
